Date Line: July 1, 2008, Minnetonka Christian Camp, Clayton, Oklahoma.  Three Senior Camps have been completed with incredible results

Not only did the 837 people attending these camps have a great time, enjoy wonderful food, study the Bible, hear inspired preaching, but 143 decisions were made.  This is 6 times the national average for Christian camps.

There are times when one wonders if all the work and preparation is worth the financial resources and the efforts of so many people.  Then we come to the summer months when Minnetonka is alive with young people and we know the answer. Yes, every hour of time spent by the many volunteers and Minnetonka staff were well spent as campers enjoy the many activities, Christian programming, and time spent in the dining hall and chapel.

If  the rest of the summer is as exciting, and we believe it will be, this will be the year that will be remembered as the 'Summer When The Spirit Was Truly Felt At Minnetonka'.

Come To Minnetonka And 'Feel The Spirit'!

Minnetonka's First Senior Adult Work Group Hits Camp

Pleasantview Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas sent a work group of senior adults to help ready the camp for summer. The group moved beds, washed windows, sewed curtains, painted, cut trees and most important had a great time. Thanks to these seniors who MADE A DIFFERENCE!

Members of Victory Baptist Church, Paris, Texas hit the camp like a Texas Tornado.

They came with enough heavy equipment to tackle several of the 'big' jobs' that would not have been possible for your Minnetonka staff to handle.  Thanks to Brother Blake and about 20 of his flock we now have a new foot bridge between the motel and dining hall.  The old foot bridge between the chapel and dining hall was repaired.  'About a million' rocks were placed as a border around the front play area of the dining hall.  The gutters on the basketball pavilion were cleaned out, for the first time ever!  New 'forts' were built on the paintball course and the picnic tables and basketball court pressure washed.  SEE THE PICTURES!

New Sign on Highway 271!

You will notice the new sign as you come to Minnetonka, night or day!  This was a group effort, as are most projects here at camp.  Jerry Buchanan of the county water district removed the old sign.  Carla Thompson, a member of Victory Baptist Church in Seagoville, Texas made the sign portion.  Cory and Kelli Thompson (no relation to Carla) in Iowa Park, Texas modified the frame and installed the sides.  Terry Yates and two helpers with the Oklahoma Power Company installed the completed sign on the poles.  We are truly blessed to have people and organizations who are willing to help when the need arises!

Bible Baptist Church, Slaton, Texas sent in yet another work crew very recently!

Can these folks work? YEP!  They made curtains, mirror frames, and painted over 300 feet of fascia to be installed on Faith, Hope and Joy (girls dorms) You will not recognize the office.  They installed a new ceiling, and tile floor.  Brother David Jenkins became the 'paint man' as he painted the pipe fence from 'The Barn' to the office and just about anything else that could not move.

We have three more churches sending work crews before our summer camp season begins, so look for pictures in the next few weeks!

The Resident Summer Staff program has really received a great response this spring.

We are completely staff for the summer season.  We are very excited that we have a full complement of workers.  Each of the 10 people have given 10 weeks of their lives to serve here at Minnetonka during the 2008 summer season.  Please pray that hey and the campers they will be ministering to will receive a great blessing by their presence here at Minnetonka.  This is the first year where all staffing was completed by the end of April.  The fact is staffing was completed by the first of April.  If you are considering serving in some capacity at Minnetonka in 2009 I suggest that you send in your application now!

Four Resident Summer Staff qualify for mission trip to Brazil.

This year 4 members of the Resident Summer Staff program qualify for Minnetonka's mission trip program.  We will be leaving for Brazil at the end of our summer season to minister to children and adults by participating in youth rallies, church services, and work projects.  Additionally we will be visiting orphanages and making visits to homes.  While in Brazil we will be staying with the Frank and Darla Brim family and using their home as our 'home base'.  Pray that we will be effect in His service as we cross international boundaries to share our faith

Final touches Made To Dining Hall AC/Heating Unit Enclosures:

'Nothing is easy when you can't get the materials you need', said Jim Morrison.  That's a way of life here at Minnetonka, hurry up and wait.  Drive, drive, drive and then drive some more.  We have been in the process of installing new Air Conditioning and Heating units in the dining hall.  Things go off to a great start with Mike Jamison and Jim Foster (home church Pleasantview Baptist Church, Arlington, Texas) taking care of the electrical requirements for the new units after the normal drive to McAlester for electrical supplies.  Next Dev. Scott (home church Victory Baptist Church, Paris, Texas) and his crew who took care of the two units being installed which required two trips from Paris, TX plus another planning trip.  The final phase was the design construction of the enclosures made by Jim and Justin Morrison (MCC staff).  During a recent marriage retreat the units were 'put to the test' and passed with 'flying colors'.  This was an improvement that was long overdue.  The old AC units had become a major concern as parts were no longer available and had to be custom made.  Last year we just held our breath.  When the need for heat in the dining hall became a real need it was decided that the time was right to upgrade both units and build enclosures to extend their service and enhance the appearance of the exterior of the dining hall.

Minnetonka Christian Camp makes a donation to the Baptist Home for Girls

Recently Minnetonka learned of a need that the Baptist Home for Girls in Madill, OK had.  Like any ministry that houses children there is the constant struggle to provide, not only the necessities of everyday living, but provide personal, and spiritual guidance while staying on a very tight budget.  We here at Minnetonka were thrilled to learn that we could do something for another organization that is in the business of helping children and young people.  We happen to have a supply of “kid food” that we knew we would not use before June.  This was food that could be used by their campus in Madill.  Early (4:00am) Wednesday morning we loaded 51 cases of food in our truck and drove to the Home.  We took everything from cookie dough, chicken fried steak, pizza, blueberry muffins, sandwich meat, hot dogs, chips, and corn dogs.  During our visit we ‘got the tour’ of their facilities including the offices, ground, a construction project, and on e of the houses where 8 girls live with their house parents.  We also learned of a generous donor who funded the construction of the animal learning center.  Gregg told us that all of their construction projects had been funded in this manner and not with their operational funds.  “Once people learn of our needs, those needs just seem to be met” he said.  It was a beautiful day and as Bernice and I drove out of Madill I could not help but think of how God has provided for Minnetonka these past 2 ½ years.  We pray asking for guidance and help and he has always provided for our needs.  This time someone else asked and Minnetonka was privileged help.  We trust that in a small way we helped answer their prayers.
